As we approach our 12th year in business, we recognize the similarities between the tremendous blow to the economy caused by Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and The Great Recession. Many people that have used the Company for years do not know our history and our story. What may be a surprise to some of you: we created The 150 Movers as a direct response to The Great Recession of 2007-2009.

Affordable Houston Moving Company

In late 2008, the owner of The 150 Movers realized that the city of Houston, Texas was in desperate need of an affordable moving company. At the time, there were cheaper moving companies in Houston. The problem with these moving companies was that they were either operating illegally, very unprofessional, or conducting dishonest business practices. He saw that many potential clients didn’t have the money for professional movers. The companies they could afford were a potential risk one way or another.

The Right Price

The owner began brainstorming on how he could serve these individuals that needed to move. He was looking for a price people could afford while being able to operate his moving business at the same time. He decided that $150 was the lowest and fairest price that could be offered. And the best part for our customers is that he still proudly offers a moving labor rate of $150! The owner created and officially formed “The 150 Movers” in 2009 during the recession.

The 150 Dollar Flat Rate

The moving company still had to deal with a mountain of adversity. Due to limited resources, the forms of the advertisement the were very limited. At those times The 150 Movers only had the word of mouth and Craigslist.org. The Company began to post on Craigslist, multiple times daily, under the name The 150 Dollar Moving Company on Craigslist. The original advertising offered a $150 flat rate move for basic services. The $150 flat rate would be available to all apartments and small moves in the City of Houston. For just $150 our company would move all the furniture and up to 25 boxes. The client needed to be located on the 1st or 2nd floor to secure this rate. Due to The 150 Movers’ low prices and competitive moving services, the moving schedule filled faster than expected.

Over the following years, our company became known for being an affordable solution to an effective and stress-free relocation. Moving clients began to realize that we had the best deals in town. We made it possible to get a professional move by professional movers at prices that were below the industry standard rate.

Moving During The Coronavirus

As a moving company that was created in response to The Great Recession, we understand that people are working with a budget. The 150 Movers are no strangers to our country’s current economic dilemma caused by Covid-19. We experienced it during our earliest years in business. We understand that many people have lost their jobs. When people lose their jobs they downsize their homes. We know that many moving clients will be on a budget for their move. We also understand that these same people will need there move performed safely and efficiently. The 150 Movers will be here to help in 2020 like we were during the late 2000s. The Coronavirus is something that none of us could ever imagine happening. However, The 150 Movers are prepared to help serve our community the same way we did in our very first years of business.
